Nature Trails and Birding in
Nagpur
Nature
trails and Bird watching trails were organized for
students as well as the citizens of
Nagpur
. The trails were carried out at the
Satpuda
Botanical Garden
,
Telangkhedi
Lake
,
Ambazari
Lake
,
Sonegaon
Lake
, and Koradi. Students from
Sandipani
High School
, Kendriya Vidyalaya Ajni,
Tuli
Public School
, J N Tata Parsi Girls High School, Saraswati Vidyalaya
and
Centre
Point
High School
participated in these nature trails.
Mr.
Jayesh Paranjape of Satpuda Foundation, Dr. Tariq Sani
and Mrs. Swati Sani of Nagpur Birds carried out these
nature trails.

AV Shows cover more than 15,000 students in
Nagpur
More
than 15,000 kids were covered during the AV Shows in
more than 23 schools of
Nagpur
. This year’s theme SOS-Save Our Stripes was received
well by the students as well as the teachers of the
schools. 3 extra schools were covered other than the 20
registered schools under KFT.

Wildlife Week Celebrations
On
1st October 2005
which marks the beginning of National Wildlife
Week in
India
, Kids for Tigers along with Satpuda Foundation and
Sandipani Green organized a Wildlife and Environmental
Film Festival in
Nagpur
city.
This festival was held at the Virat Hall in
Sandipani
School
, Civil Lines and went on for 4 days till 4th October.
Films like The Land of the Tiger, Life of Mammals,
Melghat Tiger Reserve, Birds of Indian Monsoon were
screened. More than 200 children attended this unique
festival. Apart from students wildlife loving Nagpurians
were also present.
Present at the festival were Mrs. Vijaya Dhande,
Director of Sandipani School, Mr. Kishor Rithe,
Secretary Satpuda Foundation, Mr. Kishor Mishrikotkar,
RFO, Mr. Sudeep Banerji, Marketing Manager, Complan and
Mr. Shibu, Sales Manager, Complan.

Junior
Tiger Task Force (JTTF)
Distressed by the reports of tigers missing from
Sariska, Delhi kids formed the Junior Tiger Task Force,
which comprises 12 children who are part of Sanctuary's
Kids for Tigers, was formed with the objective of saving
and protecting the tigers on behalf of a million
children of India.
The Junior Tiger Task Force represents the 12 Kids for
Tigers' cities, namely in Amravati, Bangalore, Chennai,
Dehradoon and Mussorie, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai,
Jabalpur, Nagpur, Indore, Patna and Sawai Madhopur.
From
Nagpur
, Mr Lakshminarayan Iyer from Saraswati Vidyalaya and
Mr. Vatsalya Mathur from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ajni were
selected to represent Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve and
its problems.

Teachers Training Workshop Held at Van Sabhagruha
More
than 25 teachers from 14 different schools gathered at
the Van Sabhagruha on Saturday for the Kids for Tigers
teacher’s training workshop organized by Sanctuary Cub
and Complan along with Satpuda Foundation and the
Maharashtra Forest Department.
Mr.
Kishor Rithe, Secretary, Satpuda Foundation gave a talk
on wildlife and then presented the KFT slideshow: SOS-
Save Our Stripes. This slideshow was received very well
and the teachers were really pleased with the slides.
Author and poet Mr. Shyam Dhond was also present at the
occasion.

Annual Kids for Tigers Camp held at Nagzira Wildlife
Sanctuary
Under
KFT, an Annual KFT Camp was held at Nagzira Wildlife
Sanctuary. Chose KFT ambassadors of the years 2003 and
2004 we selected to attend this camp. 13 Students from 8
different schools participated in this camp. The kids
were grouped into 4 groups and given activities like
listing birds, flora and fauna of the sanctuary, picking
up plastic from the roads, write about the bad tourism
in the sanctuary etc. A quiz was also organized. The
kids were lucky to see almost all the mammals and birds
listed in the fauna of Nagzira.
Mr. Jayesh Paranjape, Kids for Tigers Coordinator Nagpur
and volunteers, Manish Chate, Saurabh Washimkar, and
Nilesh Manekar of the Satpuda Foundation were present at
the sanctuary with the kids. Kundan Hate, ex-coordinator
Nagpur
coordinator also joined the kids.

Annual KFT Mela Held at
Dinanath
High School
and Junior College
The
Kids for Tigers Tiger Inter-school Tiger Fest, at
Nagpur
was held at the
Dinanath
High School
and Junior College on
February 13, 2005
. Around 2,500 children and teachers gathered at the mela
grounds. Various schools participated enthusiastically
in inter school competitions such as the Stall
Competition,
Skit
and Drama Competition, Drawing Competition, Fancy
Dress, and Green
Elections.
Mr. Kishor Rithe, Secretary Satpuda Foundation, Dr.
Ashok Shivde, a senior doctor from Nagpur, Mrs. Sheela
Shivde, his wife and Mr. Kundan Hate, photographer gave
away the prizes at the prize distribution ceremony. Mr.
S. S. Notey, RFO also made his presence felt.

First
Phase of NCSA's 'Mobile Health Unit' completed
31 July 2005
Mobile
Health Unit launched by Nature Conservation Society
Amravati (NCSA) and funded by Born Free Foundation
reached to 3240 patients in five Tiger Reserves till
July 31st 2005. The unit organized
total 14 health camps so far at 28 places and covered
around 95 remote villages in the five Tiger Reserves of
the Satpuda Ranges; viz. Melghat Tiger Reserve,
Priyadarshini Pench Tiger Reserve (MP), Pench Tiger
Reserve (MS), Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve and
Bori-Satpuda Tiger Reserve. The Medical Health Unit got
an overwhelming response during these camps and the
smile on the faces of patients was the ultimate
certificate for the team of doctors and assistants in
the unit.
The
health unit was officially inaugurated on 22nd
May 2005 at Hataru in Melghat Tiger Reserve. Field
Director of Melghat Tiger Reserve Mr.Nitin Kakodkar
inaugurated this Clinic while Mr.M.K.Rao, Conservator of
Forest (Working Plan) and Mr.M.K.Chandekar Dy. CF were
also present as Chief Guests.
Dr.Vishal
Wadekar and Dr.Sangeeta Rithe worked as coordinators of
Health Unit and supervised the programmes of the
Ambulance, scheduling and informing the project tiger
authorities/ SLTP partners, checking medicine stock,
purchase and procure of medicines, maintenance of
Ambulance, creating patients e-database, documentation
of health services and follow up programme.
Dr.Vishal
Wadekar, Dr.Mukesh Advani, dentist, Dr.Vaibhav Mahore
(GP), DR. Anil Masane, Dr.Rajendra Nemane, Dr.Kishor
Wagh, Dr.Megha Holey, Dr.Leena Bazare, DR. Sunil
Bihade, Dr. Shripad Ujawane, Dr. Rajesh Kate ,
Dr.Gajanan Wade were the doctors associated with the
health camps held at these tiger reserves.
Life
Force Charitable Trust (Bori-Satpuda) , Tiger Research
And Conservation Trust -TRACT (Tadoba Andhari), Satpuda
Foundation (Pench MP and MS), and Nature Conservation
Society, Amravati - NCSA (Melghat) were the partners in
the Satpuda Landscape Tiger Project (SLTP) and helped
the Mobile Health Unit in organization, locally at
their respective tiger reserve areas.

Medical
Camps held at Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary
An
enthusiastic team of three dedicated doctors, Mr. and
Mrs. Sameer Jahagirdar and Mr. Pravin Bhingare from
Nagpur
conducted medical camps for the forest department staff
and the villagers amongst the rich biodiversity of the
Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary on 5th February
and
8th May 2005
.
These camps were a combined brainchild of Mr. Kishor
Mishrikotkar, RFO Nagzira WLS and Mr. C. S. Kaptan, an
honourable High Court lawyer and a wildlifer. Satpuda
Foundation,
Nagpur
was involved with the coordination of the camps. Mr.
Jayesh Paranjape and Mr. Ankur Kali from Satpuda
Foundation were present at the camps.

“Duda”: Nature Education Van, a big Gift for Melghat
Kids started by NCSA.
Nature
Conservation Society Amravati has made the
dreams possible of tribal
Kids in Melghat Tiger Reserve.
“Duda”, the nature education Van started its
services in the 39 tribal villages of Melghat Tiger
Reserve.

Field Director Melghat Tiger Reserve addressed the
gathering while inaugurating the Van.
“Duda” means Forest
Owlet, which was rediscovered after
118 years in Melghat by Nature Conservation Society
Amravati. Tribals of Melghat know it as a symbol
of prosperity and hence the name of van. This Van
has all the modern equipments for giving nature education
to tribal Kids of Melghat. It has an LCD projector,
Inverter, PA system, VCD Player, films and nature
education material specially designed for Melghat.
